#32 Ode to my Combat boots

It as though I see real stars when I look upon those on my feet

The rainbow flags rest above flying probably lower than they ever should

The still beating heart lies above that

The golden arrows upon what must be the beginning of my leg shaking with their rapid movements

The camo one of the only kind I’ll ever wear

The laces that I still can’t tie

The zipper that helps keeps them on my feet a midnight black

Golden circles hold the laces shine as though made of real gold

The first and last heels I’ll ever wear already showing the beauty of age

They never saw real combat but have carried me through some of the toughest battles in my life

Like the one terrible Christmas I had when I got them, and they were probably my favorite gift

The first day I wore them my anxiety peaked, but the tall boots help me rise above that

I could wear them for fifty five days and not tire of them one bit

I feel as light as a bird in flight when I wear them

A bird flying high above all her problems

People who had made unkind comments to or about me now turned and looked in awe

The boots saw that I had a reminder of that in the darker times

I have more to thank my combat boots for than I do my own self

I never saw a pair so sweet as I did upon my own two feet

My boots were made for walking to the beat of my own drum

Sass was imbued into these boots during creation as much as it was with mine

They scream out a part of my personality to the world that can not see it

I can run, jump, and dance and do everything I could before I put them on just as easily

I no longer walk but strut down these halls

Solid and unbreaking, are what they are and what they make me

Black and Green are ingrained in these that reminds me of the wood and trees

They are a perfect fit for me if there ever was one

And that was to me

Something truly beautiful
